Now that I feel that we are through the worst of it, concerning potty training Georgia I thought I would share this with you all!
It's something I wrote after a few stressful days of potty training.
A little bit of background
As most of you may or may not know, Georgia didn't do well with "training pants", she didn't do well with cloth diapers and she didn't do well with disposable diapers.
In november 2007, just 3 days after Owen was bron she shocked Mommy by going pee on the potty all by herself, then continued to use the potty for a couple of weeks and then just stopped.
Mommy tried stickers, candy, toys, any bribe she could think of, putting red sugar in the toilet so she could turn it orange by peeing on it and so on and so on. NOTHING worked. She lost interest. Mommy turned to cloth diapers in March 2008 when Georgia was 2.5 in hopes that she would feel wet and be uncomfortable thius wanting to use to potty - she didn't like them, they hurt her well only the orange ones but she still didn't like them.
My last and final attempt (after this I was going to give up and accept the fate that she would be married in diapers) I switched her straight to panties - she LOVED them - didn't like the humiliation of peeing her pants and loved that they were not bulky and were much more comfortable.
She had many MANY accidents and Mommy was VERY stressed and VERY sick of laundry but this is what finally worked for us and after all that I will officially say she is daytime potty trained and we are working on the night time.
Now for my little story -
Each day is a new one filled with many smiles and joys as well as a whole lotta frustration and tears.
Don't sweat the small stuff is what they say, so why is it you never know it's small until you have already endured the sweat?
Nothing frustrates me more than potty training. An everyday adventure here. Who knew something that seems so natural and simple could be so challenging.
How does one teach"potty"? Is it said potty that needs training or the user? Where does one even begin? I can't even think about night time training. How do you train a sleeping being not to exrete bodily waste? Sleeping, Sleeping, SLEEPING, HOW?????????
The mind of a 2 year old never stops and sometimes it's too busy running to absorb and when it's slowed down it's almost always the wrong time.
Georgia is getting her shoes on while Mommy is reminding her that while out she must be certain to inform someone if she needs to use the potty before she uses her panties and how Georgia will be thrown out of certain places if she pees on the floor or other areas that are not a potty.
All the while, Georgia, not listening to a single word. She's heard this story 1 too many times and doesn't believe she needs to be told again. Instead she decides to repeat "yes, dear" and "okay, dear" with the ocassional "alright, dear" and even the odd "thanks, dear" repeatedly after another, obviously not listening.
Hmmmm, this reminds Mommy of conversations with Daddy.
She's so grown up but so not.
Mommy wishes she didn't have to repeat herself so much but it seems to be all Mommy does anymore. Between Daddy, potty training a 2 year old and teaching sign language to a 6 months old that's all I do.
